Harjinder Singh Kalsi

Harjinder is a retired CNC technician who built a decades-long career in the UK after moving from Punjab as a teenager. Born in rural Punjab, he attended his village primary school and then S.D. Secondary School in Sham Churasi. His father served in the Punjab Armed Police in Amritsar and moved to England in 1962. Harjinder joined him three years later. He completed four years at a British secondary school, studied part time at college during his engineering apprenticeship, and became a multi-skilled CNC technician known for mentoring colleagues and delivering precision work.

His writing draws on vivid memories of village life: living with his mother, younger sister, and four younger brothers; spending time in his grandfather’s haveli at the edge of the village, surrounded by fruit trees and a large wheat-grinding machine; playing kabaddi and hockey under the moonlight; flying kites; and helping his mother and grandfather with their work. He is married and a proud father of grown-up children. He enjoys swimming, playing darts, walking, family holidays, especially cruises, and his wife’s cooking. After multiple glaucoma operations, he is registered as partially sighted and supports causes that help people with vision loss.
